Alright ladies and gentlemen, the situation is pretty simple on the surface. I’ve been accepted to both Case Western and Miami. I must now pick between the two, knowing that attending Case will result in over $100K in debt, while Miami will result in possibly around $20K in debt. I prefer Case (and it’s obviously the better school), but Miami is also a good school. Is there anything else I should consider, or is it this simple? Also, attending Miami means I’ll have to commute instead of getting away from my parent’s house. My degree is Business Analytics, or a similar double major combination.
Also, considering ROTC to help pay for college if I go to Case, to make it feasible. Is this foolish, considering I know nothing about the army or ROTC? I need a lot more information on that.
Thanks all.
Don’t do ROTC for this reason.
Do you have any other choices? I think this is pretty much a no-brainer if not. 100K in debt is a terrible idea.
Something doesn’t add up for me. The instate cost of Miami w/o room and board is about $18k/year. The COA for CWRU is $67k/year. That means CWRU is $196k more for 4 years. If it is only costing you $80k more, that implies that you have a $30k/year scholarship from CWRU. I find it hard to believe that if you got $30K from CWRU you got nothing from Miami. Are you commuting from Indiana?
Anyway, Miami(OH) is the clear winner.
It is OK to explore ROTC, just don’t rely on it.
I got $8k from Miami, but that still leaves $10k on the table. Also, I received $35K from Case, which leaves $32K
@Eeyore123, CWRU could have given fin aid. Or merit. Or both. For that matter, Miami could have offered a package as well.
CWRU list price is more than Miami in-state list price but the package from CWRU could certainly make the difference between CWRU and in-state Miami what the OP says it is.
Im torn between the two also but surprisingly Case is going to be cheaper for me. I just dont know which has a beter atmosphere.
