I was accepted to both schools and for me michigan is kind of a clear choice, it was one of my top choices from the beginning. the problem is that at michigan i have to pay full tuition and in miami i got a $20,000 scholarship. the major i'm interested in is business and i know i have to apply to Ross for sophmore year but still there's no comparison between the two business schools.
My family is pretty well off and can afford the tuition at michigan I just have to convince my mom that it is worth it.
I would really appreciate any comparisons! even though i am pretty sure about michigan i am still openminded regarding miami.
thanks

Tell your mom that you need the academic rigor and competitiveness that Michigan will afford you since you will have to apply to business school for sophomore year. How you feel that this will be a springboard to a great career and open doors for you that Miami University cannot.

If you are serious about getting into Ross and feel your chances are good, then Michigan is definitely worth the extra $15,000/year. Ross is one of the top 5 undergraduate business programs in the US, Miami is not among the top 50.

Just so we’re clear…

I’d recommend Michigan in either case, but is it Michigan vs. Miami (OH) or UMiami (FL)?

Second, are you in-state Michigan or OOS?

Generally I’d lean toward Michigan but there are two factors at play, first is that there is no guarantee that you’ll get into Ross. Obviously this puts pressure on you to perform well freshman year. Second is the entire question of whether Michigan is worth $60,000 - $80,000 more than your alternative. If you or you’re parents aren’t taking on debt, (and your parents don’t mind spending the extra money), then I’d say Michigan. If on the other hand, you’re incurring debt to make this happen then I’d hesitate; $80,000 in debt will translate into $600 - $900 monthly bill depending on interest rates, not an insignificant number when you’re first starting out.

thanks for all the feedback!

I meant the university of miami florida and I’m out of state for michigan.
for me I feel that michigan is much better fit wise as well as academically and I know there is a huge difference regarding the business schools.
I know that to get into ross I have to do really well freshman year but I tend to do well under pressure and i do think i have a shot of being accepted or I wouldn’t even consider it.
my parents aren’t going to take on debt. I will probably have to get a job during the school year for spending but other than that my parents can pay I just have to convince them that it is worth it to pay more for michigan.
I should probably clarify that I am a US citizen but I live abroad and my parents aren’t familiar at all with the admissions process or the universities themselves and in my country almost any college you attend is the same prestige wise so explaining the difference in ranking is kind of difficult for me.
any more suggestions?
