MICA or UMBC?

<p>I've been trying to decide between the two of these for a while. I've applied to both, but still can't decide what to do if I get accepted into both of them.</p>

<p>There's no chance I'll go to MICA unless I get a scholarship, first off.</p>

<p>But the main issue is that I have no interests other than the arts: music, theatre, especially drawing, painting, etc. My mother argues that it'll be best for me to get my associates degree and then transfer to MICA, but you can take classes at John's Hopkins from MICA ( as long as you pay for the extra credits, I believe ). It's killing me to make a decision and I need help figuring out the pros and cons to balance out my final thoughts.</p>

<p>Which county are you in? Could you commute to [The</a> School of Art + Design at Montgomery College](<a href=“http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/Departments/mcad/]The”>http://www.montgomerycollege.edu/Departments/mcad/) in Takoma Park? That would be significantly less money than MICA, and once you finish the AFA you could transfer elsewhere for the last two years. </p>

<p>Sorry I got back so late. I’m in Anne Arundel County. Towson is way too far for me. There’s no way I’ll be able to live at the school my Freshman year.</p>

<p>Do you need to commute, or are you afraid that you would not get housing on campus at TU? The freshmen I know all are on campus.</p>

<p>I need to commute. My parents want me home for at least my first or second year.</p>

<p>Many students at UMBC do commute so that could work for you. I don’t know about the situation at MICA. The challenge for commuters is managing time, and for design majors who often work until all hours of the night on projects in the studio, getting home at some late hour can be a real challenge. You may want to think long and hard about how far you want to drive, or how far you are willing to make your parents drive to come fetch you.</p>
