Mich Transfer Requirements

Dear all,

I intend to transfer to UMich (for Chemical Engineering) during the Fall of 2012. However, I will be heading to University College London in the UK in the fall of 2011. I understand that UMich requires transfer applicants to have certain 'course requirements' (i.e. computer science for engin) to be eligible for admission to the university - However, UK universities do not allow their students to take courses outside of their major.

How can I fulfill UMich's requirement? Is it possible to transfer to UMich from a UK university?

Do I need to take the SATs?

Yours sincerely,
JEFFREY

I think your best option if you’re serious about transferring to UMich is to move to Michigan and attend a community college here if there is no way you can get into the classes you need somewhere in England. It would be fine if you took them at another institution (do you have community/junior college there where you can just take whatever you want) if that’s your only option. If you are not confident that you want to transfer to UMich and don’t have an option to take the classes where you are, then contact the admissions department and ask them.

I don’t think you should spend an year at a community college when you can go to a great school in the UK. You should however, contact someone from the admissions at UM and ask them about this, they are the only ones that can really give you an answer.
I think it’s really improbable that from the 3000+ transfer admissions that they receive each year, not one of them is from the UK
Good luck!
