Michigan admissions is almost done and it is more difficult to get in this year

What is the most competitive school to apply to within the university? Where does LSA fall?

I'm pretty sure last year's middle 50 SAT was 1260-1480, which is substantially higher than reported.

I believe Ross, U-M's B school is the most competitive school.

wow great! michigan takes quite a few waitlists ! thats good to hear

In case this helps anyone, my admit packet that I got today basically said that i was deferred because I wasn't on track with meeting UMich's required 4 semesters of a language, I had completed level 4 of spanish in high school and 1 semester of french in CC

dstark, I know he was originally deferred because he applied very late, but it wouldn't suprise me if he were placed on a waiting list. we always joke that he was the last person they let in. (which probably isn't true, i think i even read about a july acceptance somewhere)

one thing that i think about when worrying about getting deferred next year is the type of person that makes up a decently large precent of the oos pool. You can see this type of person all over the place on cc when you look at really smart kids' list of schools. they apply to all the ivies, duke, chicago, etc, then near the bottom of the list you see umich-ann arbor, because they see it in the top 25 and think they can get in. hopefully if/when they get in, they turn it down for a higher ranked school because they think that defines a university.

ObrienUM97, I hope they turn it down too.

wow im so excited!

But Michigan deferring 1/3 of the applicants..taking 20-30 % thats a little scary

flong, where are you getting those numbers?

Alexandre ball parked the 20-30 percent acceptance for deferrals and the 1/3 i read on another thread

wait cellardoor there's a foreign language requirement? lol i guess i missed that part

Cellardoor, I talked to someone and they send that letter to all transfers who have not made the expected progress towards that requirement based on what their "class" level is (ie should have a year after freshman, and two once you're a junior). It doesn't cause them to defer you though.

Flong, my ball park figure is just that...a complete estimate. One never knows what will happen. There are so many factors to consider, it is impossible to know what will happen.

I got that letter, and I'm a transfer. Only transfers should get them.

You're right it wouldn't "cause" them to defer an applicant but I possibly could have been accepted outright if I had taken more units.

LOL it's pretty sad if we all got that letter, "concerns regarding your academic record"

do quite a few deferrals go on waitlist?

Not really. Assuming we're all transferring "up" a level in colleges, a lot of mid level, lower level colleges don't require languages. While I'm fluent in a few, still doesn't get me out of the language requirement at Michigan. I'd have to test out sometime instead.

Hinvestorp - There is a foreign language requirement . I myself would like to know the exact terms of it. Someone told me you would have to take it for around 4 semesters? Again I'm a bit hazy on the terms so if someone could clarify that.

Deferrals on waitlist? I know that in some of the top colleges that when you are deferred , the next decision you get is either a rejection or acceptance. But Michigan maybe different.

Two semesters of a foreign language are required; three or more is recommended.

Is it only 2 semesters for requirement? I swear it was more for some reason.
