Michigan Application

I want to minor in finance or economics and I want to go to University of Michigan. From what I understand is you need to be accepted to the Ross school of business to study finance and economics is a LSA degree. Therefore is Ross almost like a separate application outside of University of Michigan. Because even if I get into Michigan, it doesn’t necessarily mean that I can study finance. If this is true, could instill minor in economics if I were to only get accepted into the University of Michigan but not Ross. Need clarification please!!!

Ross is like an additional application rather than separated application. You will be accepted into LSA before you are considered for Ross pre-admit, or you apply for sophomore internal transfer. You can major or minor in economics in LSA without admitted into Ross.

Is LSA what you get accepted into through your common application?

You check the box on CommonApp. There is also CoE ÷ Ross option at least a few years ago. Typically, you would be evaulated for LSA first if you choose Ross pre admit on the application.

If you want to minor in business, you apply for the minor program during your Freshman or Sophomore year. You wouldn’t apply to be a preadmit to the Ross business major.

What if I want to minor and then later get my MBA?

@timvasilyev7 There is no problem with that. Remember, however, that an MBA is traditionally pursued after some substantial work experience (and is usually more valuable that way).

I’am aware of that @yikesyikesyikes . What do you guys think of doing a double minor in economics and finance? Is it difficult? Would I be taking substatially more classes than my peers?

There is not a finance minor, but there is a business minor (for which you could take some finance classes). A minor in economics is pretty requirement-heavy, so keep that in mind.

Requirement heavy meaning?
