Michigan as premed

i would assume it's well-respected by med schools right, since it's a very good undergrad college?

also, does ne1 have stats as to the premed acceptance rate to med school?

Michigan is very well regarded in academic circles, including medical school admissions committees.

Michigan's placement rate into Medical schools is very good, assuming the student is qualified. That's a big assumption at Michigan because there are many dreamers with sub-3.3 GPAs and sub 27 MCATs applying to medical school. However, for students with good stats (3.4+ GPAs and 30+ MCATs), the placement rate into Medical schools is very respectable.

sorry to hijack, but I think the OP and I can both benefit from these questions. Would you happen to have the exact numbers of how good placement is if you're qualified? Also, is it extremely difficult to get a 3.4 at Mich? I don't want to say that I'm ridiculously smart, because I'm not, but if you make mostly "A"s in high school in the hardest classes at your school, would you be able to do well at Mich as long as you keep working hard, or is it just really cutthroat/difficult?

UoM is difficult. Hard work doesn't always mean that you will do well. You still need to perform on the exams, papers, etc.

Many people at Michigan were in the top of their classes in high school.

Placement is subjective. It depends a lot on the grades the students received in their classes.

a 3.4 GPA... I asked a friend once what the cut-off is to graduate in the top 10% of the class at UoM. He said it uaually varies between a 3.4 and a 3.5 cumulative GPA. (Don't forget that some majors are tougher than others.)

It is impossible to predict how one will do in University based on how one did in High School. However, maintaining a 3.5+ GPA at Michigan requires dedication, but it is definitely not that difficult.

From a transfer's perspective

I'm doing Pre Med

I held a 4.0 at WMU my first semester, and 3.95 after my first year taking sophomore / junior level classes

I'll be lucky to get a 3.3-3.5 this semester.
