Hi all-- these are two programs D is scheduled to audition for at Unifieds but in both cases I'm wondering whether the acting side gets enough attention and support, given the famous strength of the MT programs. I'd love to hear any thoughts.

I think someone asked this last year about CCM, and the answer was that there was a really focused acting “bubble” that was carefully tended. Someone said that the acting students really feel special there because they are different. Here’s a thread that talks about it:

Thanks for finding this, EB!

My guess is at Michigan that the school and program are so big that there is plenty of room and attention for everyone. We found that even between the BFA and BA at Minnesota. At small schools, this is definitely an issue. My D was very turned off at Wagner because even though she said she didn’t want MT, that’s all the admissions people talked about. Also, the mainstage theater is dominated by MT productions, with the Acting shows way back behind the football stadium at the black box. All of the promotional materials also splashed MT quite broadly.

But I’m glad I remembered the CCM thread. I think it stood out because it was so unusual that the Acting kids felt so supported at a school more known for MT.

Hi Gwen -
My son is a sophomore at Michigan in the BFA Acting program. From my perspective it appears that the two concentrations are very much separate but equal in terms of support. You can PM me if you have any questions, and break a leg at Unifieds.

Thank you Bazaarshopper! I may PM as things go along. This is very good to hear.
