SAT I:
new SAT: I am taking them in October, got a 1280(M + V) in June, but have practiced a lot since then and I think I am in position to get at least a 1400 (M+V) since I have been scoring around there in the blue book

I think I have have an above average essay and great teacher recs.

I plan to go into business(transfer into Ross sophmore year). I think Michigan is a reach, but here is my scheduale for senior year(the bulk of it):
AP Computer Science
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics C
AP Italian 5
AP Statistics
Oracle 2- Honors

I know it's a reach for me, but is it possible if I do well for 1st semester in senior year and send midyear report(or 1st marking period report since my school does that), I have a chance?

Thanks

You shouldn't go to Michigan just for Ross because Ross is very competitive to get in as well...so If you don't get into it, you have to be satisfied with majoring in the liberal arts! Im applying to Mich as well.

I think it is a reach but if you have good recs and a great essay (which would be great because the topics are hard!!) you could get in. Your APs are good and ec's seem to be fine too. If you get a 1400 you have a good chance too.

Where in NJ do u live? i live there too.

being out of state and your relatively low sat score is gonna hurt you.

Doesn't The Ross School of Business NOT admit students in their first year, rather you have to apply to the Business school after you are admitted your freshman year?

I've also heard it's VERY difficult to get into, much harder than general admissions to the university, that and engineering.

It's very difficult to get into Ross. I think they will admit a very small number of freshmen this year - but unless you're a superstar, running a million dollar business on the side, don't bother. The majority of students apply mid-sophomore year. It's competitive 50% of students are rejected. Word is you must have college GPA of 3.6, plus evidence of leadership and community service in college.

Well I'll worry about getting into Ross later.\ If I work hard, I think I can get in. Right now, I have to get into the university first. I am not applying for Ross until after freshman year anyway. But I know I can handle the load and work my butt off to give myself a good shot at getting in. Again, I am not worried about Ross right now. I just want to get in to the university first.

If you can raise your SAT M&V score to 1400, you have a good chance. But right now, I would say Michigan is a slight reach for you.

Ok thanks guys, I really do believe my SAT can get to around that range, but my GPA will be my downfall if I don't get in. Also, does Michigan look at midyear reports? I am working my butt off for the midyear to try and make up for the last 3 years.

I appreciate all the help guys.

hotctyplaya - if you get deferred, then they will look at your midyear reports. If they haven't made a decision on you by then, of course.
