<p>There should be a couple of students here at UMich. From what I have heard from others, it is very good.</p>
<p>D is a freshman doing a double degree at UMich. (liberal arts and oboe performance) It's a fantastic University, with a wonderful Music School...What is your question?</p>
<p>I know some schools make it easier than others to do double degree...just wondering how Michigan stacks up?</p>
<p>It is very easy at Michigan. Candidates need to apply to both schools, and then once accepted, usually one school (Music, for example) becomes the "home base" but advisors are always available to help make course selections and keep track of degree requirements. It will normally take 5 years, but with AP credits and "spring semester" (ie summer school) options, it is possible to complete the two degrees in less than 4 years. From all I can tell, the professors are very supportive of double degree students, and a relatively high percentage in the School of Music do enroll in another school (LSA, Engineering, for example) as well. From our somewhat limited experience, other schools that are well organized for double degree students are Northwestern and Oberlin. We were told that most music teachers at Rice/Shepherd actively discourage double degrees, and Eastman-Rochester seemed easy on paper, but less so in reality.</p>
