Hey guys. I am applying for Michigan, and I hope to get into Ross School of Business as a freshman at Michigan, so I am not currently choosing preferred admission. I have chosen LSA as the College that I am applying to, but I want to get a degree in Finance from Ross. In the second essay, which talks about “What draws you to a the college you are applying to”, I am confused whether I should write about Ross, or LSA?
Thanks for any help!
I am also doing the same thing and I plan on writing my essay on Ross as the rest of my application is very business oriented.
Few things, you can no longer apply to Ross as a Mich Student anymore (this is last year). Only transfers and incoming freshman can be accepted. So all future Ross students would be Pre-Admits, so if you’re trying to get into Ross, apply to Ross now
Also, Ross doesn’t have a finance major, it’s just a 3 year BBA program. If you want to major in Financial Mathematics or something that’d be in LSA.
With that being said, I’d talk about Ross since that’s your big goal.
^^^^^ I am aware of this change. By what I have heard however, you are still able to apply to Ross RD as a U of M freshman, but it will be much more difficult to get in. They plan on 80% of their class size (500) to come from Pre Admits and 20% (150) to come from transfers and RD applicants.
This is what I have heard from my research and attending a Ross Information Session a few months ago.
Thanks to all of you for replying. @BrownSuga32 So I could still apply to Ross as a freshman at UMich, but would need to have very strong grades in all classes to get in? Would this be like raising the GPA requirement to get into Ross?
My academic advisor told me that all future Ross students are pre admits or transfers. No such thing as applying as a freshman or sophomore anymore.
And you can minor in Ross to take classes there. Ross isn’t looking for highest grades; they look for unique individuals with interests they highly pursue. Decent grades are enough.
Trust me, I’m a pre admit in Ross.
Wolverine8. Thanks for your response. I believe you are right. Here is an article I found that may help some people out explaining this topic:

I also have a question of my own about the essays. I was wondering if it were okay to overlap activities in my essays. So far, most of my Michigan supplements talk about Robotics because, by the time I graduate, I will have put in about 3500 hours into the program. However, I do have a ton of other activities that I could potentially talk about. Robotics is just what I have committed a lot of time into and something I have held leadership positions in throughout high school (This year I am the captain).
Sure, but don’t talk about the exact same activity. You can talk about a specific scenario and robotics in general, but make sure there is no overlap between the essays except the fact that you love robotics
