Michigan Honors Program Question

I still haven't applied to the Michigan Honors Program because I was waiting on a few decisions that I just received. I didn't initially think I was going to go to Michigan, but now it's one of my top choices and I really want to get into the Honors program. I still haven't started my essay, however.

Will it hurt me to wait a week to complete my essay or will nothing happen as long as I complete it before the April 15 deadline?
How hard is it to get admitted to the program? (I was invited to apply because of my stats if it matters)
How important is the essay in gaining admission to the program?

Applying later does, by default, hurt you slightly, but not by any significant amount.

It’s extremely easy to get in if you’re invited to apply. I’ve never heard of anyone getting rejected after being asked to apply.

The importance of the essay is based on whether or not you’re asked to apply. Since you were, then it probably isn’t too important. Just make sure you show a lot of effort with it so they know you actually give a crap about getting in.

It also doesn’t hurt to decide where you want to go soon so if you decide on UMich, you can send in your enrollment deposit before they review your application. This probably isn’t necessary but I imagine it would help your chances if they know for a fact you will be attending.
