This is what attending Michigan has done for me.
Last week, I was a bit worried about getting interviews since I haven't heard back from any companies right after career fair. Then...I kept getting interview requests. It's amazing. I have about 10 interviews in a span of 2 weeks! I'm absolutely overwhelmed with joy. I feel so fortunate to be part of this family. I love Michigan! :)

Thanks for letting us know! Hope we could be able to come and join you!

square- are you in Ross? LSA? What is your major? All those interviews …that sounds great…fill us in on your major etc…and good luck!!

in your opinion, how long do you generally have to wait to get a call for an interview after a career fair meeting with an employer?

I’m a senior in engineering. Most of my interviews are through COE’s job system Engenius.

Yeah, I got to schedule an interview like a day after I applied. Then I got an offer like 3 days after I interviewed. Its for a internship though, but a top company.

Go Blue

@ThisIsMichigan: Could I know if you were kind of familiar with other job hunting majors? How about Psychology, Economic, Communication Studies, Sociology? Can these also get good internships?

I have no idea. I’m not sure what a communications major, sociology major or psychology major would even do as an intern…

Yes! It is hard for these major.

Congratulations, Square!!!

That’s very impressive. Good luck with the interviews!

Congrats!! My son is considering Michigan for science/engineering so its nice to hear companies are hiring.

We had 297 companies at the fall engineering career fair. There are tons or info sessions too

@ThisIsMichigan: Could know you are not sure mean there almost no internship opportunities for these majors? Or you were not familiar? U-M’s Communication Studies ranked top 4 among nation so I am wondering why it’s not idea for job hunting?

I just don’t know. I’m really not a good source for info on those majors

OK thank you all the same!

Dreamingowl, those majors are a little more generic, being Bachelor of Arts degrees. Engineering is a professional degree, and as such, is more heavily recruited than typical majors – which is not to say other majors aren’t employable – it’s just not as heavily RECRUITED on campus per se.

The COE is a top rated ENG school and has about 6,000 students to choose from…which makes it worth a company’s while to visit and recruit.

Other disciplines, with smaller student populations, might not attract active recruiters (it’s expensive for HR to do on-campus recruiting unless they get a particular yield). So the levels on on-campus activity just might not be the same.
