Michigan Political Science Majors?

Can anyone tell me about Poli Sci at Michigan. I know that it has one of the best programs in the country, but can any one give kind of a more personal account of the program?

This is at LSA right?

Also, as a side note, how is the political scene on campus? Are the students really active in political activism, campaigns, protests...ect...? Is it generally more to the left or right?

Thank you!

It is in LSA and I’m pretty positive that Ann Arbor is pretty liberal

Well it’s obviously socially liberal, but economically it goes both ways.

The campus has historically been one of the liberal hot spots of the United States. I’m majoring in Poly Sci starting this year and I can tell you the class selection is amazing. Anything you can possibly be interested in is here. It seems to be very writing based (which is good). Do you want to know any specifics? I know that Poly Sci at UM has been ranked 3rd for the last 5 or so years.

I am a political science major at UM with the LSA school. I mostly concentrate in American politics and I have enjoyed my experience so far. Writing, reading and discussion are key in almost every classroom, solid professors in almost every topic. The GSI’s are widely used in discussions - they are knowledgeable and a valuable tool.

On campus, the political activist scene is good. The College Dems are active - the Republicans not so much. There is a lot of issue advocacy on the Diag and on campus. However - this isn’t a DC school. It isn’t all politics all the time.

In the end, I highly recommend the program.

Thanks guys! Yeah that sounds pretty ideal for me as far as activism and courses go. I was sitting down to write my supp essay on why I wanted to apply to LSA for Poli Sci and I found myself having nothing more to say than “It is a top ranked program and I have heard good things…” lol. I kind of just want some more specific things to go by…
