How many nobel prize winners Michigan have?

17 of the 19 people affiliated with the university of Michigan (7 students and 11 researchers and faculty) who have won the Nobel Prize have done so in the Sciences; 6 in Medicine, 2 in Chemistry and 9 in Physics.

Furthermore, 1 Michigan alum won the Fields Medical, which is the equivallent of the Nobel Prize for Mathematics, only it is awarded just once every 4 years. Only 10 or so US university have produced Fields Medalists.

Finally, Michigan has a top 10 Engineering program.

Overall, in the Sciences, Michigan is comparable to the likes of Columbia, Penn and Yale.
