Just wondering what are the chances of me getting accepted? Transferring with 46 credits. A 3.77 gpa with various activities . Along with that I held a position as a supervisor with the company that I work for. I’ve completed the wra and math requirements for MSU. My major is political science. My app says currently being reviewed. So if there are any other transfers looking to communicate during the application process feel free to post.
My app says currently being reviewed too.
Started at U of D Mercy but didn’t like it too much. I am at OaklandCC now doing my MSU prerequisites.

Currently taking 17 credits at OCC.
Nice, I am currently enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College. I take it this is your first year of college? A friend of mine transferred after two semesters as well, but he wasn’t accepted until late spring due to admissions needing proof that he passed his pre recs. You have a solid college GPA. I know that if you have more than 28 transferable credits when applying. Admissions does not look at your high school gpa. Either way I think your act score is solid and your college gpa shows you can handle the course work. Whats your major?
Business… But I don’t have many of the pre recs needed to be admitted directly, which is not a big deal, I was planning on finishing a lot of those over the summer and hopefully go into Broad second semester of soph year or first semester of junior year(like most students there do).
@yaboyfromthe616 I can say with out a doubt that you will get accepted into Michigan State with out any worries. I have looked extensively into the transfer process at MSU. I most likely will be transferring to MSU for the fall semester. The one thing that msu wants is for the applicant to complete a Rhetoric and composition class before they transfer to the school. (I’m from the 616 too!!!)
Currently an Engineering student at Penn State, decided that while the school holds a lot of prestige in the academic and business world, my degree and experience at the school can’t be worth 20k more than tuition at msu.
Sophomore Transferring with 62 credits from a CC
GPA: 3.45
Engineering
My application says “Your application to Michigan State University is currently being reviewed” as well.
What do you think of my chances?
I know the person w/ the 3.77 GPA is going to get in for sure. lol
How strict is MSU on transfer students as opposed to traditionals?
@MSUSparty you should get in fine, I’m pretty sure for engineering your technical GPA has to be above a 3.0 although I’m not 100% positive.
@JustinS123 what do you mean by strict? I mean you can get in as a transfer student with a college GPA ~3.0 but you generally need a 3.4+ to get in out of high school.
I transferred to MSU this past fall as a junior directly into Broad so I should be able to answer most questions you guys have.
@TheSpartan Thanks so much for the feedback. Yes, it is 3.0 + for the GPA Requirements. Also I went to MSU for a transfer meeting. Extrememly confusing. Do we have to send our transcripts now or do we send them after we get accepted on the Student Portal? Thanks
@MSUSparty pretty sure you should send them now with your fall semester grades.
Could someone help me. I am currently a freshman at a local community college in my second semester looking to transfer to MSU for the fall 2015 semester. I applied to Michigan State after my first semester but I only achieved a 2.9(sickness in my family prevented me to give all of my focus into school, but i don’t want to use this as an excuse). I applied with an intended major in Packaging, which only requires a 2.9 to get into the program. MSU average gpa for transfers is a 3.0. I intend to have completed 31 transferable credits by July. If I raise my GPA to a 3.1-3.2+ after this semester will I still have a shot of being accepted.
I took 14 credits this semester (only 7 transfer) taking 15 now and 9 in the summer
How long does it take to review applications
@sparty10 It depends on what program you’re applying to. Since I applied to Broad my app had to be reviewed by MSU first and then Broad, so it took a lot longer than most do. I applied last November and didn’t hear back until April.
Chance me?
Communications major, 3.54 GPA
Some college varsity athletics, lots of different work experience and some volunteer work.
Portal says: Application is currently being reviewed.
Very, very anxious, this is my dream school!!!
I am currently taking the math requirement this semester, will that hold me back?!
@sparty1995 I think you’ll get in just fine but they might not accept you until they have your grade (so not until like June). I would call admissions to ask but they’re pretty finicky when it comes to the math and WRA requirements. I think they’ll pretty much decide that they’ll admit you and then wait until they have your transcript for this semester with the math completed before they make it official.
@thespartan thank you for responding! do you think it’ll be a ‘deferred’ decision?
@TheSpartan My app has been under review for about four weeks, and my major is communication i have a 3.5+ gpa Im just wondering how long it takes to hear back.
If I’m remembering correctly, it can take up to 12 weeks but you’ll probably hear back before then.
@TheSpartan how soon do you think? Thanks for the help.
