I know it might be a little early for Fall 2017 transfer threads, but if you’re anything like me you’re already obsessing over admissions.
If everyone applying could please post their stats, advice, experiences, etc… it would be much appreciated

MY STATS:
Female, Caucasian, Upper middle class, In-State
Current School: Average regional university
Major: Economics & Public Policy Double Major (depends on which school I get in to)
College GPA: 4.0
Extra Curriculars/Extra Stuff:
High School GPA: 2.7
Yes, I did absolutely terrible in high school. But hopefully they’ll be able to see how I got my act together and that I’m completely capable of succeeding at their school.
I welcome input and criticism on my chances
How long does it take MSU to update the application once I put in my entire academic record and changed my major
I’m still waiting for a response as well and I submitted my information to them back in November. Right now I’m at GVSU taking classes this semester.
I think usually it takes about 5-7 weeks. I know this I was in the same situation last year and I submitted my completed and current courses in my academic record and they my application changed to “under review” in february. It’s kinda frustrating when they take forever to get back to you.
If I’m currently taking my math requirement with a college GPA of 3.75 and currently above 28 credits and with writing requirement done, will i get partially accepted then once I pass my math requirement get officially accepted?
Applied to MSU as a transfer student for Fall of 2017. Posting this on all the transfer forums I applied to (that exist) for reference. Will report back come decision day, maybe even live in the suspense as it approaches.
22YO white male from Michigan
Also applied: Michigan, Cornell, Stanford, Harvard, Brown, UPenn, Columbia, NYU, Vanderbilt
Major: Psychology
Objective
Currently Attending: Community College in Michigan
Credits: will finish with 88, which includes 12 from APs… I expect somewhere around 50 to transfer due a semi-difficult social work program I am completing that is nontransferable, as well as the APs being taken out. Will have MTA and MACROE endorsements as well
College GPA: 3.95 (UW), 1 W in Fall of 2013
College course load: Sporadic courses from fall of '13 to winter '15. 17 CH’s in fall '15, 21 CH’s in fall '16, 22 this semester (never received lower than an A-, haven’t received A- since winter of '14)
Two gap semesters in winter '15 and winter '16, explained well
HS: Public School in MI
HS GPA: 3.2ish
ACT: 28 (one and only sitting in March 2011)
Did not apply out of high school
Subjective
EC’s: Work as a “full time” school bus driver in addition to the 22 CH’s I’m taking, internship at residential juvenile delinquency rehabilitation program, another job in leadership role, the gap semester jobs and travel, serve on board of directors of local youth baseball league, run umpires program for the league for last three years. Passionate about them all.
Essay: I’m a perfectionist, and I felt like there was something still to be said, but I know I’m a really good writer, so shrug
Applied for Summer 2017, think I’m the only one who did that among our pool of applicants, lol. None the less, I contacted MSU transfer admissions office and they said they haven’t even started looking at any apps (1/13/17). Word of mouth says they will start review around the end of January and have answers shortly after.
I totally get your unrest… I’ve never been on a forum until now; you can’t find answers anywhere else.
Anyway,
Community College student
GPA 3.97
64 credits
30 some volunteer hours and continuing
Part time job at a fitness center
Rowing coach
Majoring in biomedical laboratory scienceScience
Also applied to Wayne State University
Worst part is fumbling with east lansing housing/apartments… so many places are near or already full for summer/fall and you can’t make decisions until you’re accepted.
Bottom line, transfering is a pain.
When they look at apps, will the online application change to “under review” or will it always stay the same where it says,
"Your application to Michigan State University has been received and will be reviewed once all materials have been received and processed.
You MUST update your academic record by submitting grades for any completed, currently enrolled, and anticipated courses. All previous grades and current courses from U.S.-based institutions MUST be submitted via your online student portal. Paper transcripts must be submitted to our office for any international institution in order to update your academic record. If the transcript is not in English, a translation must be provided.
We cannot render a final decision on your application until the above actions have been completed."?
I know the pain with the apartments and such, in the same situation, wish they answered faster.
It’ll change to “under review”. Then once that changes from under review, you’re status will either be accepted or deferred. Deffered means that they’ll want to see your current semester grades before making a decision.
Most colleges don’t take this long to render a response.
I just applied to Wayne state as a back up and they told me they’ll know in 2 weeks. I know WSU is a smaller college, but MSU is coming up on the 12 week mark none the less . sigh
Yeah it really sucks how long this takes, just need to know an answer to whether or not I’m in so that there can be arrangements for living. I will probably get deferred because I am currently taking my math requirement, however, if you are deferred, assuming you pass the math class, are you technically partially accepted?
My stats line up being with a 3.75 GPA, 50+ credits, writing requirement done, currently taking math.
I would call and talk to someone in admission hmn1997. They’ll probably accept you though. Similar to you, I just had a friend that got deferred for spring semester back in October, but did well in his fall classes at CC and got in… catch was they accepted him literally 2 days before the semester started. So anyway you can make sure that doesn’t happen to you the better you’ll be off.
As for housing, if you are staying on campus you’ll be a’okay. Trying to get into off campus housing, you might be in a pickle. I’m trying to get into Summer 2017 and everyday I don’t have an answer my pool of apartments dwindles.
Dang yeah I wouldn’t really like it if I was accepted that late at all. I have already called them a couple of times, I just don’t really want to keep pestering them, unless that is what you have to do. Will they tell you if you are at least accepted IF I get my math requirement?
They won’t give you that much detail, anything they say will be the bare minimum. They won’t tell you your chances or how to increase them. Try finding someone that works with transfer students.
They will ask you to update them and then they will make a decision.
Who or what would be an example of someone who works with transfer students?
Hey everyone, today 1/19/17 my application turned to “review”. Let me know if you guys see the same thing.
Next question, does anyone know how long it should take from this point?
My status went to under review as well today as well! I figure you’ll hear something at the end of feburary. I am somewhat familiar with the review process because I applied last year for fall 2016 but got rejected because of grade performance. Like if you really have a good GPA and completed most of your required courses for your major, I’m pretty sure you’ll be accepted.
Yeah same changed for me
