Michigan State Office of Admissions

There is something seriously wrong with the MSU Office of Admissions. This is a long story, but it's not very complicated, so bear with me.

I am a sophomore at Wayne State University, and I applied to transfer to MSU around January 2010. My application read like this for a couple of months: "Your application file is complete. There is no decision at this time. Decisions are typically made 10 to 12 weeks after all application materials are received. Once the Admissions Review Committee has made a decision regarding your application, an official letter will be mailed to you. Admission decisions are not provided over the telephone."

March 29th, 2010 that status finally changed and it said a decision was made and a letter would be mailed to me. When I received the letter, it told me that I was admissible to the University, but not to the Eli Broad College of Business. This is because I had Accounting listed as my major preference on my transfer application, and apparently this is a limited enrollment major at MSU, so I did not meet the requirements yet. The letter told me I could stay at my current institution and finish the required classes or change my major and come to MSU.

So I called the next day and changed my major to Economics, which is not a limited enrollment major and has no requirements. The lady on the phone tells me they will now "re-review my application" and I "should be fine." Last Monday, my application status changed back to the one I posted above (remember, I waited 2 months for a decision when that was my application status before). So it has been that way for a week, and I'm starting to worry that I'm going to be waiting another month or so to hear a decision when I have already received a letter saying I'm admissible to the University!

I just don't understand why transfer applicants like me can't be expedited when a situation like mine arises. I understand that MSU has tons of applications piling in, but come on. I have already waited my 2 months for a decision, I was told I was admissible and all I needed to do was change my major, but now I have to wait another 2 months?! This is crazy. Please respond with your thoughts on this, or let me know if you have any experience with something like this happening to you. Thanks guys. Sorry it was so long :P
