<p>University of Michigan is better. Just look at USNWR's ranking to give yourself an idea of how different schools compare. If two colleges have a ranking difference greater than 10, it is safe to say that one is more prestigious than the other.</p>
<p>In this case, "better" is quite subjective. No one will dispute the quality at U of Michigan-Ann Arbor. But if you're misled to believe that Michigan State doesn't have outstanding academic departments overall, you would be quite mistaken. The fact of life is that UM gets the better recognition nationally and among the affluent locally. But MSU, particularly in the sciences, is really excellent. Do a search of MSU's Lyman Briggs School of Natural Sciences, for example.</p>
