Michigan State Transfer for 2017

Hi I’m a freshman at the University of Michigan Dearborn and I just wanna know what are my chances to get into state after my first year of college with like a 3.2-3.5 gpa?

Also I have taken 13 credits this semester and plan to take 15 next semester and I have a pre-business major.

How long on average will it take for MSU to update your application after submitting academic record and changing my major

They said that it would take 8-12 weeks. Has anyone’s portal been updated yet? I applied for Fall 2017 on Nov 15th, and haven’t heard anything yet.

Mine still says that its waiting for all materials to be processed before the review process, but I called them and they told me they have everything they need, very confusing with the online application process

Still waiting, nothings changed from day one (11/15/16).

Did anyone apply for summer 2017 here?

They usually ask that transfer students have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA although, there have been plenty of 2.8’s and 2.9’s accepted. Coming from another fairly known institution with a high GPA you should have absolutely no issues. Should go smoothly for you as long as you have taken College Algebra or higher and Composition 2 or higher. Based on what admissions has told me, you should submit your application now with your 13 credit history on it as well as the 15 credits you are taking this Spring but leave the grades blank. They will send you a decision saying they are waiting to see further grade proof and you’ll just put in the grades from Spring that you receive early May and then, you’ll hear a decision based on all 28 credits by early June and that decision will almost 99% be that you’re admitted. The only problem I could see is getting straight into Broad College of Business. They may give you general admission to MSU but not the Business School as it is a lot harder and you may have to establish some coursework history at MSU before they really even consider you for it. Although there HAVE been people who were accepted with 3.5’s into Broad so I wouldn’t rule it out one bit.

Unfortunately I ended my first semester with a 2.97 gpa due to my calc teacher being an extremely difficult grader but all my other grades were an A and a couple B+'s and this semester I am doing very well in all my classes. I sent my application on January 17th and am still waiting for a response. I hope I still do have a chance what do you guys think?

What major are you applying as? If it’s a super math intensive major that calc might be detrimental. If you’re like me and applying as No-Preference, you’ll have a better chance since they won’t single you out on certain disciplines (math, writing, science, etc.) they’ll mostly just look at GPA since they don’t know what major you are and don’t put too much weight on one thing.

I am a pre-business major and well at the university I am currently attending I do not have to take calc ever again so I’m hoping it doesn’t weigh too much. I also took stats that semester and got an A in it.
