Maybe you guys can help me out with the question I have. I applied to MSU for the Fall 2011 semester. I have a 3.2 gpa, i got a rec letter from the dean of social sciences, pretty good essay, and show an upward trend i am transferring around 40 credits and have the english requirement, however i do not have the Math requirement. I took a MATH 2600 course but it doesnt count toward MSU's MTH1825. I plan on taking it in the summer. What are my chances without the math class for admission?

bump…

nkimmey, I was wondering the same thing! I also applied as a transfer student and am waiting to hear back. (I’m getting pretty worried…I applied in January…)
Anyway, as for your question: I’m taking the math and English requirements this semester, and I was worried those may not count towards my admission seeing as the admission decision will arrive before those classes are finished for the semester. However, if I remember correctly, there was a place on the application to list classes you intend on taking before transferring. If so, the Admissions office will be able to see that you are going to take those classes before attending MSU. You’ll also be required to send your final transcipts before they make their FINAL final decision, so you should be fine.
Even if none of the above proves to be true, although you didn’t take a MTH1825 equivalent, it looks good that you took a higher-level math so you may be able to bypass the MTH1825 requirement.

As for your GPA/essay/credit hours info…you’re looking pretty good (from what I know). I know this is only one example, but my boyfriend got into MSU as a transfer student after failing one of his classes at Northern Michigan University, which made his GPA drop significantly.

I am a tad confused (and worried), though. You mentioned that you sent in a rec letter…is that something I should’ve done as well? I didn’t see a place for that on the application so I figured it wasn’t a big deal. Oh dear.
