Michigan Transfer Question

Does UMich accept transfers on a rolling admissions basis?

Also, what are usual stats needed to transfer? Thanks.

in-state or out of state? fall semester or winter semester? and junior transfer or sophomore transfer?

out of state, fall semester, sophomore transfer -- thanks

OK, it is rolling admission -- see the website for more details on that. I'm out of state and I transferred from a top 50 LAC to Michigan my Junior year. I was lucky to get in with only a 3.3 GPA, but I had strong recommendations and essays. I also took a very difficult course load my first two years (several 300 level courses). It's easier to transfer after the sophomore year as I did, especially if one's high school performance was less than stellar (because they will place less weight on the high school grades and more on the college ones). I would say at the bare minimum you need a 3.25, but strive for a 3.5 to be safe. Write top knotch essays and get a recommendation from a professor you have built a relationship with. Also be sure to hint at the reason why you want to transfer from your current institution, but be careful not to bad-mouth it. Best of luck.

UMrunner08, which school did you apply to? Do you happen to have any infomation on what the acceptance rate generally is for out-of-state applying to the engineering school? And since it's rolling, I suppose it would be a good idea to send in the application as early as possibly can before the deadline (i.e. in Jan/Feb)? Thanks.

Bump, I'm very curious as well.

I applied to LSA. I have no idea about transfer acceptance rates. I don't know where they publish such info. The earlier the better, but sometimes you'll get lucky sending it in late if they are short of what they're aiming for in terms of acceptees. I submitted mine on the last day of the deadline. Good luck

i am a freshman, who recieved a 3.33 in my first quarter taking 3 honors courses. what i really would like to know is if I need to complete an entire year in order to transfer, or if I can transfer during the school year. thanks.

with a 3.3, it's safe to say you probably won't be accepted after just one semester. The more college credits you have, the better the chances are you'll get in with a GPA under a 3.5 (and it's still a reach). I would suggest applying after the year or even after your sophomore year.
