dstark--You could PM A2Wolves6 for more info. as well. Started this year as an OOS freshman direct admit into IU Kelley and received $6,000/year.

Noles, since I hijacked your thread, I should say my daughter goes to Michigan, I have visited Michigan and it is a great place to go to school.

As was said earlier, Michigan has very strong academics (my daughter says the average student works hard, maybe, 30 hours of homework a week).

She is not finding most classes large. It is not hard to have relationships with professors.

The advising isn't great. You have to be proactive.

The school has huge school spirit. The football games have over 100,000 people attending.

GoBlueAlumMom, my kid's stats are closer to elsijfdl
than A2Wolves, for better or worse.

He's not going to have the grades for Kelley direct admit.

There is a good chance he won't go to IU.

Congratulations on the scholarship. How does your son like IU so far?

He may not qualify for direct admit, but still will be considered for an OOS Faculty Award.

Actually, my S. was admitted to IU but did not attend. He opted for an LAC, Kalamazoo College, as a football recruit where he also received a larger merit award than from IU. Besides, he's a hard core Wolverine fan (had no choice in our household!), so the other Big 10's didn't hold the same appeal for him.

GoBlueAlumMom, I misread your post. Sounds like a big win for your son. He gets to play football and still root for the Wolverines.

UVA, Wisc, and Wash. can't come close to Mich football.

I think the atmosphere at Madison is FAR more lively for football. UM Stadium is a dead zone.

Michigan is important to PAC-10 football. After all, someone has to come out and here and lose to USC or Washington or Stanford or UCLA in the Rose Bowl. Did you know Bo went 2-8 in the Rose Bowl?

(I don't know why I'm talking about this. My alma mater doesn't even have a football program...)

Jump Around is played at every University of Wisconsin home football game between the third and fourth quarter. This tradition started in Madison in the 1990s and was so successful at firing up the crowd that many other sports venues copied the tradition to varying degrees of success. When the song blasts through the Camp Randall Stadium speakers, the crowd goes nuts, especially in the north end of the stands where the student sections are located. The marching band and even the Badgers players jump around too.

Rick, Bo did not do well at the Rose Bowl, but not including the Bo era, Michigan managed an impressive 6-3 Rose Bowl record. Overall, Michigan is 8-11 at the Rose Bowl, which is also pretty impressive, considering that the Pac 10 has a homefield advantage and the Rose Bowl pairs the best of each conference. Only 3 of Michigan's 11 Rose Bowl losses were by more than 7 points.

And I would not brag about the Pac 10 vs Michigan. Michigan has dominated Pac 10 teams:

Michigan's record vs:

Arizona: 2-0
Arizona State: 0-1
Cal: 6-2
Oregon: 3-1
Oregon State: 4-0
Stanford: 6-3-1
UCLA: 8-3
USC: 4-5
Washington: 7-5
Washington State: 4-0

OVERALL: 44-20-1 (70%)

Well, yeah, Michigan has a pretty good history as long as it's not a big game...

(This sure is fun!)

There used to be a great rivalry between Wolverines & Buckeyes, not only in football but in engineering back in good ole days. Now OSU engineering seems to be not good as before. What happened? :(
