Michigan vs. Illinois

Hey, I'm an undergraduate looking to transfer into a music program. I've been accepted at both Illinois' and Michigan's trumpet studios, and I was wondering what anyone had to say about each of the programs. Thanks very much.

Sorry, I forgot to add, I’m also in the studio at Michigan State University. If you can tell me anything about the program there, I would appreciate it.

Sorry, Urlicht, I am not going to be of much use. My D is going to go to UMich and we were obviously very impressed by the winds there, but I do not know anything about the other programs. Winds are unfortunately underrepresented on this board. But everyone will tell you that you just have to go and visit. It is still not always easy to compare because what we found is that one day school x may be rehearsing for a big performance tomorrow, and will sound polished, and the next trip school band y is just starting to work up a comtemporary piece so it can be hard to compare. But you will still get a good feel and of course teacher compatibility is key. Opportunities to perform, location and money all factor in of course. The schools you name are large enough that they probably all have recordings on line. Here is the one for UMich, you just use your wolverine access to get in.

good luck.

Urlicht,

I can’t help with your decision but I have included your acceptances over at the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/1045522-master-list-music-school-acceptances-fall-2011-a-67.html

I am going to assume that you are interested in BM trumpet performance programs at all three schools that you mention. Let me know if that is not the case.
