Michigan vs. Wisconsin for Business

I’ve been accepted to both the School of Business at Madison and Michigan including pre admission to Ross. I’d much rather go to Michigan as I like the school better, the academics in general are stronger, and Ross is more highly regarded than business at Madison. However, I’m a Minnesota resident and therefore I get basically in-state tuition in Wisconsin. Even though I got a scholarship at Michigan I would still be spending around $15k more a year there than at Madison. Does anyone have any experience with the business programs at these schools/experience with the schools in general, and have an opinion on whether Michigan is worth the extra money? My goals with business include an internship on Wall St. during school and a two year stint after graduation. Eventually I hope to end up in venture capital/PE and then to start my own company.

Thanks

Those are some bold goals but Ross all the way. Ross is definitely a target school, I believe all bulge brackets recruit from there and Ross’ OCR is great

If you/your family can afford the 15K+ of going OOS, go to Michigan.

If you wish to work in Wall Street, and if your parents can easily afford the difference in cost of attendance, in your case, Michigan is worth the investment. But make sure your parents can really afford it. $20k/year more for Michigan is a steep price to pay if your parents cannot easily afford it.

I’m in agreement with Alexandre. If there’s any financial strain, stick with Wisconsin. I have friends who love it there.

If your family can comfortably afford UM (no debt, no hardship) I’d go there with the Ross pre-admit. If not UW is a fine alternative.
