michigan/wisconsin/indiana/nyu undergraduate chances

i'm at international student applying for undergraduate level admission at michigan ann arbor, wisconsin madison, indiana bloomington, NYU, boston

not asking for financial aid

SAT:
reasoning 2170 (CR 750, math 720, writing 700)
chinese 800
literature 690
going to take math level 2, should score quite well

top 20% of very competitive class/school

regular community service volunteer (tutoring children etc)

good co-curricular records (won prizes at national level)

thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated!!

im guessing Chinese is your native language, so perhaps pick a different SAT 2 to take
reach at Madison, only because they preference people in MN and WI, and then raise the bar horribly for all others.
Boston = reach
michigan= reach ( for the same reason as WI)
indiana= match
NYU= match, I know someone accepted there with much lower stats.

the only reason these are reaches is because they give preference to in state people and out of state is hella hard to get in.your SAT is fine, work on a different SAT 2 besides chinese unless your a native english speaker and learned it through some other source. in hard economic times the state schools are looking for people who will be able to pay full tuition so that could definitely help. otherwise good stats will get you in.
chance back.

michigan - reach (out of state?)
wisconsin - high match (out of state?)
indiana - match
nyu - match
boston university? - match
boston college? - match

thanks so much everyone, but what exactly does reach/match mean??? really sorry…im not very sure!!!

NYU - reach
Michigan - mid reach
Wisconsin - high match
Boston University - match
Indiana - low match / safety

NYU and Mich are the most selective here considering the volume of applications they receive. NYU has many applicants just like you and Michigan is very tough out of state.

btw… reach means it’s going to be a stretch for you to get in, but it’s not impossible. Match schools are where you most likely stand a chance at being accepted.

Match means you have generally a 50-60 percent chance of being accepted.
Reach means you will have like a 20-30 percent chance of being accepted, and its not impossible.
Safety means you have an 80-90 percent chance.

NYU - high match
Michigan - lil reach (sats are way above average)
Wisconsin - match - high match
Boston University - low match
Indiana - low match to safety’
