Michigan

If anyone's familiar with UMich's individual schools, I noticed when visiting the campus that there is a drama major listed under LSA's Residential College. I assume it's a BA, is anyone familiar with the program?

University of Michigan is a HUGE campus in Ann Arbor. There are numerous colleges at the Ann Arbor campus. The largest is the College of Literature Science and the Arts (LSA). The students who go there are mainly concerned with a liberal arts bachelor…or something of that nature. The theatre course offered at the LSA is definitely a BA…primarily lit./history studies with a focus on theatre and its lit./history…definitely a more broad apporach to theatre then a BFA, which is more preparation for the professional world of acting.

With that said, the university DOES offer a BFA in Acting and Musical Theatre at their conservatory: College of Music, Theatre, and Dance. That is a program that requires an audition.

Does this make sense at all?

The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance also offers the Bachelor of Theatre Arts program, which is like a BA degree in Theatre, that is designed for people who are looking to get into the theatre world, but do not want to be limited to acting, musical theatre, or technical theatre. SMTD also offers BFA in Acting, Directing, Technical Theater, and Musical Theatre.

Come to Michigan! Everyone I’ve talked to in the drama department LOVES it there.

NOTE: UofM does NOT do a senior showcase tour for their BFA in Acting…ONLY their BFA in Musical Theatre.

Thanks for the clarification. I’m actually doing a theatre summer program there, so I’m familiar with the different schools and such. But I was SO confused on the BA! Thansk a lot
