<p>My employer has given me the opportunity to be trained on either access or SQL. I'm proficient in both excel and matlab... which seems like they would be good introductions to each. I understand that SQL is more technical, but does it even give more freedom than the easy-to-use/learn access? Which seems like a better choice? Such as, what are the pros and cons of each?</p>
<p>It depends what you are using them for and what’s your position within your firm. Access is easy to use, but it’s also viewed as a form of End User Computing, and it’s not supported by IT. With a lot of information security issues, many firms do not allow people to use Access. Find out how Access is used at your firm, and if you will be allowed to use it in the future.</p>
