Microsoft Office por laptops

the SCO09 file states that the laptop you must bring should have Microsoft Office Standard but I went to the stores and it's $500.00. It's way too expensive for me and I think I'll be getting the basic or student version. Which Microsoft Office programs are really going to be used? word, excel or any other?

T.I.A.

You can probably get it discounted through the school. Microsoft gives very generous educational discounts.

OpenOffice is free and will save in MS Office formats, but formatting can get screwed up. Only do this if you have the time to check your documents over.

Which major? It varies.

Many students run Open Office. The computer requirements aren’t tightly enforced - but if you go to OIT with an Open Office problem, they won’t help you.

I’ll be taking Electrical Engineering for my undergraduate studies

For Computer Engineering I used word and excel constantly. Powerpoint was used here and there. Linked outlook to my GT account.

Thanks for the link Darko. I have a trial version from a class I was doing (I’m one of those old fogey students) and was wishing I could keep it to practice on at home but couldn’t afford $100s. $60 I can do :D
