Hi there, I was wondering if it is required to get a microfridge from the school, or if we are allowed to purchase our own and use those?
also is there only one microwave and one fridge allowed? or are each roommates allowed their own appliances?
thank you! :)

a microfridge isnt required…you can purchase your own fridge. one downside is you wont have a microwave and you can put your microwave into your room. THis might help

[UC Irvine Student Housing - Residence Halls - What to bring…](http://www.housing.uci.edu/whattobring.asp)

The rooms themselves are pretty small so you won’t WANT two microwaves/fridges. Gotta learn to share and coordinate with your roomie

I think BigBurrito made a typo? “can” should be “can’t” so like he said, that means you can’t bring your own microwave unless it is attached to the microfridge you rent from school. That’s the upside to renting their microfridge, but it’s completely optional!

poorcookie is right but if youre good at organizing you can do it lol

i lived in a triple in middle earth phase 2 hall. we had 2 fridges, a 32 inch tv, extra chair, etc. no need to make the room very “roomy”, because in the end, you only really sleep there. if youre even moderately extraverted, besides class, youll be out with friends and youll study in a study room or library. i was rarely in my room.

Dang, you guys must have eaten a lot! Or had the 100 meal plan? 'Cause we always had meal plans left over O_O haha

haha i wish! i ate so much! i cooked all the time and i had the 165 meal plan, and around the last week of each quarter, i had already run out of meals so id freeload off other peoples guest swipes! i was one of the lucky few who didnt gain weight though (make good use of the arc!)

thanks guys! I was just wondering since we dont know our roomies yet and incase mine doesnt want to share or something! haha but i think ill just go for a microfridge…the microwave rule stinks!
thank you! :)

wait wait haha we all know there is a microwave “rule” but no one follows it and no one inspects the rooms anyway! my neighbors had a grill, microwave, and waterboiler… all of these broke the rules! haha the RA doesnt care, and its not like theyre gonna barge in the room suddenly to look. microfridge is an “alright” deal, but i bought my own fridge for about $100, and the plus side to that is you get to keep it! in the end its your decision lol.

Lol, SemperFurdge, that’s true. They do inspect the room once during the year though so you might have to hide it at that time if you decide to bring a microwave. And by “they” I mean the housing people, not just your RA. They were prettty picky when they checked our room. My roommate had her ethernet cord across the room since her desk was so far away from the jack and they deemed it as a fire hazard and told us to fix it and set up a later date to check up on us -_-

Oh but yeah one advantage to the microfridge is I THINK they have it ready in your room for you, so you won’t have the hassle of moving it (especially if you’re on the third floor like we were haha) :)

hahahaha ohmygod people come check?!?!?! Thats ridiculous lol, but thank youu! ill talk to my roommate once i figure out who they are and figure it out then :)

they warn you far ahead of time. they said they were gonna inspect our hall but it never happened. however, they will check over winter break (as everyone is kicked out for the break and they inspect the rooms)

so in ur opinion, aside from the microfridge (which i dont want to get) what or where is the best place to buy a fridge. i know the maximum size is 4.3 cu ft so i would want something within that size range. I’m thinking long term, i.e. a mini fridge that i could use once i live off campus and in my own apartment. Are there any fridges that someone recommends or has had a good experience with?

Ah, I have a question as well~

How do we know whether a mini fridge is UL-approved or not? .-. I haven’t exactly gone shopping for one yet so I’m not sure if it says on the box or something… All I know is that descriptions of ones online don’t say whether they’re UL-approved or not. Is it safe to assume that most mini fridges are UL-approved?
