Mid-January?

Montegut, don't forget about the Jesuit High half-tuition scholarship (one for each Jesuit High School). And if your son is involved in FIRST Robotics, there is a FIRST scholarship as well. These require separate applications.

Marquette has annual scholarship competitions for admitted students.

Also there are many private engineering scholarships.
Marquette University | Office of Student Financial Aid | Private Scholarship Opportunities for Engineering

Thanks so much for the tips. Wasn't aware of the private engineering scholarships or the newsletter or the new engineering building.

We're hoping to do the scholarship competitions if accepted. Don't know anything about FIRST robotics.

Hope we can qualify for the Jesuit Scholarship. Need to find out what the requirements are for that.

Do you have to be the child of an alum to apply for the alum scholarship? We don't have a local chapter, but would like to apply for the national club scholarship.

No, you don't have to be the child of an alum to apply. Now, whether that helps in getting one, I'm not sure.
The most applicants are for the Chicago and Wisconsin chapters, so I would certainly take a shot at the national.
Also, I think there might be a special scholarship for kids who come from certain states, the less common ones. It might be listed on that link that's posted above.

a friend of mine got her scholarship package this past Saturday, so they must be in the process of sending them out now.
she got 10k/year w/ a good ACT (between 32 and 34), a good gpa (between 3.5 and 3.8 UW), and a REALLY hard course load (same as mine, actually, lol). so now the really anxious wait begins.

Dbwes,

If you don't mind answering, how much did your daughter get for an Ignatious Scholarship? My daughter really likes Marquette- but she is also looking at Loyola and Valparaiso. I am sure we won't get any financial aid so I am hoping the Ignatius scholarship amount will bridge the gap. She had a high PSAT score so she has a shot at a National Merit Finalist and Marquette just gives an additional 2 thousand if you put them as your first choice, but Valpo gives an automatic $14,500 for NMF. Also does your daughter feel safe on campus? I think Marquette will be her top choice as she is leaning towards physical therapy. She will be entering college in 2010. Any input would be appreciated.

Whoo hoo - S got his Ignatius scholarship today!

Marquette is definitely on the top of my list after I received my merit money notification this week! I got an Ignatius Academic Distinction Scholarship ($9,000/year) and a Ignatius Magis Award ($2,700/year). Now I'm just waiting to see if I got into the guaranteed Doctor of Physical Therapy program!!

Great going, Hakuna!

Way to go Hakuna-

I am hoping my daughter can say what you are saying a year from now. We actually just went and visited the campus today ( Sunday) but will go back in a month or so when there are more students on campus and the offices are open for an official tour. She loved it, and the direct admitance program to the Doc. of Physical Therapy is a huge draw for her. Do you know how many freshman are accepted in the program? I am assuming you had very high test scores and GPA to get that amount of merit money. Great job!

Thanks guys!! I'm very excited :)

nkl811 - I do not know how many students are accepted into that program, but I DO know that it is very competitive. I'm suppose to find out if I qualified within the next week or two! I know that dbwes's daughter got into the program, so perhaps she can offer you more insight on how challenging it is to get into the program. In addition, I would check out this site ---> APTA | Home

Select the key code "A2 - Program admits students at the freshmen level" from the drop down box. The list that pops up after you hit the submit button is a list of all the Guaranteed Physical Therapy programs. There's only about 30 overall. I found that list very helpful when applying to Guaranteed Physical Therapy programs this year. Hope that helps!

Congrats, Hakuna!

Hope my son can join you in Fall 2010!

Keep us posted!

First off, congrats Hakuna and cpeltz's S!
nkl811 -- My daughter is indeed in the DPT program at Marquette. She is really loving it this semester since she has two classes that feel very hands-on applicable -- Anatomy and a class in Surface Palpation. She is also still taking all her cores and her general science classes.
We were told last year that the department had just over 900 applications. They accept a bit over 100 so that they can get a class of just about 60. ACTs seem to be at least 29 -- the Health Sciences college (which also includes Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Lab Sciences, and Speech Pathology) tends to have the highest stats at Marquette. DPTs do not have to major in health sciences, though many do (my D is Exercise Science) -- some are psych or Spanish. Some are even in engineering (the really motivated ones, I guess!)
Last year, D also received $9,000 dollars a year with a 31 ACT. She thinks there may have been one slightly higher amount for those over 32. Unfortunately, it does not increase every year. But we did get a letter saying the tuition increase for next year will be under $1,000 so that total tuition will still be (just) under $30,000. Still pretty good compared to some other privates.
My daughter loves Milwaukee. Believe me, I had all the same concerns about safety. The kids really do figure it out -- take the Limo, travel in groups when they go out on the weekends. She does walk back to the dorm by herself from the library and has never felt unsafe.
Hope that helps. All the best to your daughter. I've never been to Valpo but have heard good things about it.

One thing to remember about DPT if finances are a concern -- the undergrad scholarships do not apply to years five and six. While you are saving a year of tuition off a standard three year grad program in PT, you are still paying pretty high tuition those years.

Thanks so much for all the info. My daughter is really hoping to go to Marquette. We'll have to wait and see how much aid she ends up getting and hope for good test scores on her ACT. Also, it is good to know you can choose your major. I think she would like to major in psychology for her undergrad degree. It is great your daughter is getting some hands on experience right away!

I’d say we are mid- January! Looks like Marquette is sending out admissions decisions a little later than last year.

nkl – I was thinking that, too. Younger D is waiting. Older D says no, she remembers hearing at just about this time.

I just checked the undergraduate admissions web site - there is a big “pay deposit” button that I did not see a few days ago. I bet the letters are going out.

Looking back at this thread, people received letters on Jan 8th and 9th last year.
Let’s hope we hear soon!

Hey. I really want to get into Marquette. I am waiting for their application decisions and am calling everyday! I have been so worried. They said that applications have been sent out yesterday though, but I don’t know for sure.

I was also wondering if anyone is applying to their Pre-dental scholars program? Honors program? or if anyone has information and statistics about it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Good Luck!
