If you’re starting this semester, don’t you already know where you’re living? Besides that, any dorm in the Northwest neighborhood, particularily McNutt, will be outgoing. The dorms in the Central neighborhood are more “normal” and the quieter dorms are in the Southeast neighborhood. If you’re an upperclassmen though… why are you living on campus? The legit parties are in off campus apartments or houses and the dorms don’t quite contend.

The easiest way to meet people was being one in 7,000 people on move in day who doesn’t know anyone. Since that’s not you, I’ll say what everyone else does and say to join a club. If you don’t wanna do that, spring rush starts shortly after we get back from break. But I hear it’s more competitive than Fall rush unless you know someone in one of the frats.

Any frat is the same whether you’re a newcomer or not, but some of the “Top Tier” frats at IU are Beta, Delta Chi, Kappa Sig, Acacia, while the lower-tier includes Theta, Skulls, and Sig Ep, which are still good but not appreciated as much. But like I said, Spring Rush is harder if you don’t have connections, which I’m assuming you don’t since you’re new.

Most freshman chill in their dorm rooms, especially when it’s cold. When it’s nice out, people walk around outside. People don’t leave campus that often.

There’s no need to drive to class, and there’s no where to park anyways. Campus isn’t as big as everyone thinks. If you were to walk across campus (say from Swain West to Eigenmann), which people regard as pretty damn far, it’d take 20-25 minutes tops. Plus there’s a bus system, but it’s not the most reliable.

You should be fine starting half way through the year. 95% of people at IU are incredibly awesome and nice, and making friends shouldn’t be a problem for anyone.
