Mid-Term Grade Reporting

Should midterm grades be reported to all schools that were sent applications, or only those schools that ask?

They all want the midyear report. Our HS sends them automaticaly to every college our kids have applied to.

Hmmm...I never knew this! We have nothing to worry about, but I'm kind of surprised to hear this...

Many/most places will want a mid-year report, but not all. I know that I looked very very hard to see if NYU wanted one, and I can definitely say that they do not want them (I used their application, and it was not listed under required forms). So, no, not every school wants them.

My son was accepted to University of Illinois-U/C months ago. I called their office last week when I remembered that my son hadn't sent a copy of the transcript for the courses he has taken at the univ here in town. The admissions office said they had no need for any transcripts from the college or his high school at this time. If he enrolls, they need an end-of-year transcript. Keep in mind, he was already accepted. Perhaps it is different if you have not already been accepted.

I would just call the admissions office if you can't find a definitive answer on the web site. Or, if your high school just does it automatically with no charge, let them do it.

Sorry, I guess I was wrong. All 10 of the small LACs my son is applying to require a midyear report. Seems to me it was part of the Common App, but maybe I'm mistaken. S's GC said the HS will automatically send a MYR to every college they sent a transcript to. Other high schools may handle it differently. One of his EA colleges wouldn't make a definite scholarship offer until they saw the MYR.

Yes, bethievt, the private to which S was accepted EA does require a midyear report and college transcript, since they are deciding on merit scholarships during the next month or so. Seems to vary by school, and I think by private vs public.
