Mid Year Grade report requested?

Hi! I'm an in-state applicant and I sent in my application a while back. I switched schools my senior year. I just got a request from the University of Pittsburgh asking me to send in my mid-year grades before they give me a final decision. I have a 3.1 UW and 1830 SAT.

Is this a bad sign? An automatic rejection? Am I hovering between a waitlisting and rejection?

What was the reason for the low GPA ? I hope you mentioned that on your application. No, you definitely have a pretty good shot at getting in. They just want to know how well you can handle the course load in 12th grade since its supposed to be advanced…Anything over 4.0 or maybe 3.9 in the first semester will get you in…Good luck

I had a horrible, horrible series of events occur during my sophomore year. Including but not limited to pedophile teachers, two friends committing suicide, a teacher dying in front of me and my mother and grandmother being hospitalized. All within 4 months. I have tons of AP’s and college classes (14 total college level courses) and I would have had close to a 3.5 UW had it not been for my horrible sophomore year.

Wow thats sad…I hope you get accepted. Anyway, try to get all A’s this semester or more than 3.8 unweighted or more than 4.0 weighted. You will definitely get accepted since your SAT score falls around the middle 50 of pitt.

You really think so? And thank you… Honestly, it was a horrible, horrible time. Basically my schedule went like this:

5 A’s, 2 B’s and I think it’ll be similar to that again. I’m just praying that I get in. Do you think writing a letter explaining what happened would be a good idea? Along with including all my activities?

2 B’s will make your chances worse. All pitt looks at is the GPA and SAT’s and if anything hampered the GPA of an applicant. If you did not mention why you have a low GPA on your application then you should send them an email or call them. You can write about extra activities but thats not what pitt cares about most. Its pretty much number based. So, study hard this semester.
