I’m applying for college early decision and I just found out that the coalition app is asking for “Mid-Year Grades” which is very concerning. My school has quarter progress reports, but those are NEVER put on the transcript, and for personal reasons, my grades thus far have been pretty rough (3 Fs yikes). I have a 3.9 GPA and it’s a horrifying prospect that all the hard work I’ve invested these past 3 years is about to go down the drain. So, does anyone know if colleges for ED ask for “mid-year grades” does that mean Quarter One progress report and if so is there ANYWAY to circumvent that from happening.
I don’t see any way to circumvent it. They are generally required for ED. (and a mid-year report is generally required for any RD decision). If your guidance counselor is aware of the personal issues you faced this semester you can ask him/her to include a note with the report or else you can email your admissions rep. but 3 F’s isn’t good. If you think you can bring the grades up by mid-year you may consider not applying ED.
Also keep in mind that any D/F as a final grade can be ground for having an offer of admission rescinded.
okay thank you
My daughters’ school would not release quarter grades to schools because they are not officially part of the transcript. RD schools did receive her first semester grades in January. I would talk to your GC.
As noted though, get those grades up as you could lose your acceptances.
Mid-Year grades means first semester. If your school does not report quarter grades on the transcript, then there is no issue.
That said, some colleges, for ED, will ask for a mid-semester update, either formal or informal. What the HS will provide may be limited by school policy, but you have no control over it.
As others have said, work to get those grades up.
