I know it's pretty late in the game to be asking questions about this, but the wording on the Mid-Year report is throwing me off. It says it must be postmarked no later than Feb. 1st, or as soon as mid year grades become available. At my school, mid year grades won't be available until Feb 12th, so I assumed that I would wait and turn in the mid year report as soon as these grades came out in mid February. However, now I'm concerned that I'm thinking of this in totally the wrong way, and that I MUST return the form by Tuesday even if grades aren't ready. Which is right?

You pretty much answered your own question there.

Dude, turn it in when you get your grades. Otherwise, the form would be meaningless.

I Have almost exact the same situation as you upward, except our school is around Feb 7.

NOTE: it says NO LATER THAN FEB 1.

So the only option you have (According to the wording) is that to send in only your 1st quater grades.

Delfire, you're missing a very important clause in that sentence. I'll give you a hint: it's preceded by the word or which is "used to indicate the second of two alternatives" (thanks to answers.com for the definition).

I can't believe we have to examine and overanalyze a simple sentence and all of the parts of that sentence on the Columbia boards. Send it in when you get the chance.

That was my point, mekrob. They're not going to murder you for waiting until grades are actually out.

However, instead of looking at it as a grammar problem, we could use some algebra. The sentence reads <it says="" it="" must="" be="" postmarked="" no="" later="" than="" feb.="" 1st,="" or="" as="" soon="" mid="" year="" grades="" become="" available.=""> All you do is replace the variable in the equation ("as soon as mid year grades become available") with the date they actually become available.</it>

In your case, Delfire, this translates into <it says="" it="" must="" be="" postmarked="" no="" later="" than="" feb.="" 1st,="" or="" 7th.=""></it>

There we go. I hope this helps, for those of you in agony over Columbia's deadlines. :)

lol...

LOL...that's pretty good mathematic deduction on wording. (no sarcasm at all ;))

I'm not arguing with you, but I just thought it meant:
give us your 1st semster grades as soon as your have them, but no later than Feb 1.

If what you said were true, I know schools (with an "s") that doesn't release the records till post mid-February. But then again, I'm probably wrong...It won't make a huge difference because i sent mine out already.

I don't stress this enough on collegeconfidential:

J U S T C A L L T H E M U P

But they actually want your grades... you may wish to send it again.

right...otherwise the purpose of sending the midyear report (just maybe to get your MIDYEAR grades?) is moot.
