I’m doing some research and am suddenly super stressed about the importance of my mid-year report. I took 3 APs junior year (AP Lang, AP Biology, and APUSH) and received an straight A’s that year. (4.24 weighted GPA, 3.92 unweighted).
This year (senior), I’m taking 5 APs (AP Spanish, AP Calculus AB, AP Lit, AP Chem, AP Gov) but have a B in three of them (Calc, Chem, Gov). My GPA at this point will be ~3.7 unweighted and ~4.3ish weighted, but I’m still worried about the sudden B’s. My rank will also probably drop as well. Some of it is senioritis, not gonna lie, but I’m still working pretty hard and have a lot of EC’s to keep up with.
Will this seriously affect my chances? I’m worried about my reach schools such as Emory, Wake Forest, UVA, and William and Mary (I’m a VA resident).
@avalaanchee It’s hard to say since we do not know what the rest of your application looks like (test scores, ECs, teacher recs, awards/honors, etc.). We also do not know who else is applying from your school (assume lots to UVa and W&M, not sure about the others). The course rigor looks really good. Does your school have + and - grades? Or Just A, B, C, etc.? Though it’s not a great development and you concede it is at least some senioritis, there is nothing you can do about it. So just try to control what you can.
@Sunny66 Thank you! The rest of my application is pretty strong in my opinion; 34 ACT (one sitting), president of my Key Club and Theatre Honor Society, and participation in a few more Honors Societies/clubs. I had A-'s in AP Bio and APUSH last year. I’m confident my recs were good (one more personal than the other). I think my essays are okay (well-written but topics may be a little bland). I also received departmental awards in science and history sophomore/junior year and the W&M leadership award.
I’m mainly concerned because I have friends who were deferred/rejected with similar stats but stronger senior year grades. I just want to make sure this isn’t make-or-break.
