okay, i found out that my mid-year report did not get submitted. i haven't been contacted for it, though. is that bad? the status thing doesn't list it as required...

well, in the letter from yale that confirmed receipt of application, it said that they will contact you if anything is missing, so if they haven't contacted you by now, it's probably okay.

i see that you also posted this in the princeton forum ... rest assured, princeton will EMAIL you if you're missing anything ... they emailed me when i hadn't handed in my counselor's rec.

and even if you hadn't submitted your midyear report, maybe your other stats were so outstanding that they didn't need your midyear to determine that you're accepted :)

Yale's status page is very general as opposed to say Wellesley's where everything is itemized with the date it was received. They may have it and in fact probably do but it is hard to tell from the way it is listed.

I think they'll let you know if you're missing anything.

thanks, but you don't understand: it never got sent...my counselor did not fill it out and send it

They don't know that. And when they do need it, they'll ask.

I think the OP wants to know if he/she is already out of the running because Yale did not ask for something that was missing. I would say just stick it out a few more days because no one can give a definite answer - you could be so good that you got in without it, or you may be out already. Who knows?

yeah, that's what i wanted to know...
:(
i sent an update letter on the 5th that i have a bad feeling was probably discarded. ah well, i can always go to mit :D

corinao, in early March, my son was told that he could still send updates into Yale. Also, it was my understanding that the applications didn't go to committee yet. Did your school fortget to send in all your midyear reports to all colleges?

wow, that's certainly a relief :) no, they got sent to harvard and mit, but yale, princeton, and stanford's weren't sent out. so if they don't contact me, should i still send them in? there's no point if they don't need them...

so if they hadn't gone to committee in early march, when does the process end? are they done now? anybody feel like the process is just a little too secretive?

You should probably go ahead and send them in, but I would be surprised if you get rejected from those three because of this.

I don't think the midyear reports are really that important. The early applications were all accepted without it. If someone was deferred they are not going to be accepted because they kept their grades up or improved somewhat for the first semester. Why someone was deferred early usually has nothing to do with their grade point average. Anyone who was deferred was a strong candidate or they would not have been deferred to the regular decision round. There are several reasons why someone is usually deferred. It could be that those accepted from your state were primarily recruited athletes, development admits and connected legacies that tend to apply early and that you were compelling but there were just not enough spots to take you. It could be that you were compelling but that they just want to see who else is applying regular decision. It could be that your extra curriculars were not unique enough or showed enough passion but your grades and scores were strong and they want to see if coming from your state you would still ble considered one of the strongest applicants in the regular decision pool.
It could be anything. How one does in the first semesster of their senior year is not going to make their case to be accepted. Most seniors do not even perform as well as they did in previous semestsers as they are in the process of completing many college applications while juggling a very difficult courseload. Somenone who received all A's all throughout high school could find themselves with a B+ or two. It is not going to change how they are viewed as a candidate. Even if someone was not as strong academically and had mostly B+'s all throughout high school and than received two A's in the midyear report that is not going to get them accepted. We are talking about one semester of your senior year.
The collegese just want to make sure you are generally performing at the same level.
As for them missing the report, the poster who inquired about this does not know for sure if they are missing. Often the status page shows something like the midyear report missing when it is not.. If something was missing they would have contacted you or your guidance counselor.
If you were specifically contacted to give it then by all means fax it in

You could always call admissions and find out if they want it faxed. Some admissions offices will look your application up on their systema and can tell you quickly that it is needed. good luck

i think it's a little too late...i wouldn't be surprised if decisions were finalized by now
