Mid year report problem (Byerly, NSM)

Hey its the apfreak...again:D

I am concerned because I just sent my mid year report for Harvard March 3, 2006. I was deferred and wanted to send in some really good stuff. They already have my new SAT scores (improved 200 points) but I wanted to send them a much more revised and organized resume, my letter to them with some VERY unique reaons why I want to attend, an excellent letter of recommendation testifying to my determination (which many of you have noted already :D) and my mid year grades which display my insane schedule with great grades and just how I have enriched my HS courseload with many online AP and honor courses.

I am concerned that they have already read through my application and have made a decision. Do they have other rounds of judging. All this stuff could really help my chances! When did they start the judging and do you think that they do deferees first?

I thought I read somewhere that they started reading the applications on the beginning of March. I think it was a crimson article, maybe you can find it.

I called the admissions office last Thursday wanting to ask about AP exams and the girl told me all the adcoms were already in committee and unavailable. I believe they start by region, where the regional officers will weed and then send whoever's left standing to the full committee for review. My guess would be no on the idea that they start specifically with deferees. It defeats the purpose of deferral to postpone decision until RD and look at all the deferees first because the point is to compare to the rest of the pool. My conclusion is that they either look at all deferees last while in review by region, or just mixed in random order with the other RD applications. Of course, I have no history with the school, but I hope it helps somewhat!

It may too late, but you have nothing to lose in trying to send it. It will not hurt your chances. Regardless, one of two things will happen:

1) It is too late and no one will ever see your new revisions.

or

2) It is not too late and it may help you.

So, plain and simply, you might as well try, because while it may do absolutely nothing for you, it could also be the one factor that tips the scale in your favor.

Haha I'm in the same situation as apfreak. You know what bulldogbull, that is the most profound yet simplest advice I've come across! Thanks a million :) Good luck to my fellow deferred Harvard applicants!

i sent in my midyear report on march 3rd too.

my school's notoriously slow in calculating everything...so it couldn't send in my Mid-Year until last week, when it determined new GPA/rank (a full month after the semester ended)...oh well...hopefully it still makes it somehow... :)

Yeah, that's why mine is late too :D But I don't mind too much, b/c it does say you can send it when mid-year grades are "available." Haha, I guess that was a provision for folks like us with slow schools ;)

and for those of us that were deferred, our mid-year reports will still most likely be included when our applications are reviewed again. (I hope ;) )

My midyears are my 1st trimester senior grades...so my school report ONLY has my junior grades, which are not as good as my senior grades. If they see in my school report that it does not include grade 12 marks, will they look at my mid-years or just reject me w/o even looking at the mid years (bec junior grades not that impressive)? Help much appreciated.
