How do I find out if I'm required to submit a mid year report? (I know some people are and some aren't right?)

In the past, everyone who wasn’t accepted in the late January/early February wave was expected to submit mid-year grades. USC may have incorporated that into the Common Application process by including a mid-year report requirement. My recollection of The Common App (not for USC, but for other schools) is that each school to which you applied clearly displayed if a mid-year report was required - so check USC’s requirements on The Common App.

I suggest that if your 1st semester grades were as good or better than the grades with which you applied, you should not wait for them to be requested. You should scan your report card and email them to your admissions counselor as soon as possible. If your grades are lower than the grades with which you applied, wait until they are requested or required before submitting.

Does USC really take these semester grades into consideration? I did very well this semester and have a bit lower stats for the school (1900 SAT & 4.2 GPA) so im wondering if i sent them if it would help my app… i interviewed and have a very solid application, its just that if the midyear report helps, i want to send it.

Anybody received the letter to request the mid-year report?
“Dear xxxx
Thank you for your strong interest in the University of Souther California…
Specifically, we would like to see the results of the first semester of your senior year course work before we take final action on your application…”

Is that bad news???

That sounds like good news because they are still considering, and have not crossed you off the list. Send your grades in ASAP! When did you get that letter or email?

By mail, the post date 2/2/2012

Does USC also use DHL for mid-year reports when sending to international applicants? Or is that only for admission decisions.

My son received the same letter as lsng2107. It was postmarked 2/3/2012.

I also received that letter. Should I assume this means that I am out of contention for scholarships but still being considered for acceptance?

^^ you are out of contention for the 2 big scholarships, unless you are a NMF. All MNF’s who are accepted will be awarded a 1/2 tuition scholarship. There are also many deans scholarships yet to be awarded- those notifications will go out with the acceptances in late March.

see this thread containing lots of information from the Dean of Admissions for more details

My D did not get such letter and we live in SoCal. Wish they would just use the USConnect rather than these letters.

If the “mid-year” report box is showing in your USConnect, I would just enter them and send in your transcript. Very easy to do online.

I got this letter too! I’m pretty worried that I’m going to be considered for rejection now.

cadave - it is on your USConnect. Log in and submit.

chaosakita, everyone is supposed to submit mid-year grades, so being asked to submit them is not an indication that you will be rejected, it is just the next step in being considered for admission. Unless your worry is that your mid-year grades were lower than you hoped.

Oh, I thought only some people were supposed to send mid-year grades.

From what I’ve read, those who were accepted recently with a scholarship don’t have to send in their mid year report and those who haven’t and have gotten the letter about not receiving the big scholarship have to, correct? I got the letter and have sent in my mid year report already. Does USC look at +/-'s?

"and those who haven’t and have gotten the letter about not receiving the big scholarship have to, correct? "
correct

Just sn FYI - the “submit mid year” box was in S’s USConnect before his package arrived and then disappeared. Thinking if you have that box, they want the grades.

Anyone who has not been accepted needs to submit their mid year grades.
