I got two B's in second quarter and they're going to bring my ranking and GPA down )-:

My counselor has already submitted the school report a month ago when I had my old GPA and the good ranking. So let's say the college gets the mid-year report that has a lower gpa/ranking but sees that I had a higher gpa/ranking in my school report, which one will the college weigh more and how will that hurt my chances?

I am not an expert by any means, but I imagine just as with the application itself, there are many things that need to be considered:
How competitive are the schools you are applying?
What classes did your grade drop in - are they rigorous?
How much exactly did your ranking drop?
How competitive is your high school?

Again, I’m not certain, but as a parent looking at my son’s applications, these are things that I would want to know. Just another thought - when will the mid-year report be completed? Will the decisions already be made at your college(s)? I wouldn’t think that getting 2 B’s would cause an acceptance to actually be rescinded. Good luck to you!

I am applying to Emory, Boston U, Tufts, UChicago, NYU, NEU, and Georgia Tech.

I got B’s in AP Micro and Accounting (this is a required technical/vocational course offered at my school). But I forgot to mention that I also got a B in AP Gov in my first quarter )-: So I guess in total I got three B’s. I am also taking AP Computer Science, AP Stats, and AP Art History and I got A’s in them. I am on a block schedule so I will be taking AP Calc AB, AP lit, and Physics Honors next semester.

I don’t know how much my ranking will drop but I am currently 10/141… I used to be 5/141 but after I got that B in AP gov I dropped to 10th. My school report on the Common App says 5/141 though! I can only imagine my ranking to be around 20/141 after this quarter’s grades go in.

I don’t think my school is that competitive, it’s relatively small but the top students are applying to top colleges!

Thank you so much for your response!
