If someone gets in EA, and the mid-year report isn't so hot (hypothetically, because senioritis really doesn't happen haha), will ND rescind admission?

Probably depends on how un-hot the semester grades are... If you drop from an unweighted 3.99 to a 3.7, I doubt it makes a very big difference. If you drop from a 3.99 to a 3.0 or a 2.7, it probably does make some. I've not heard of rescinded admissions, but every university in the country warns its acceptees about it--because every university in the country is familiar with the phenomenon of senioritis!

I am aware of one of my ND classmates who had been accepted to a medical school and had it rescinded when his GPA dropped to a 2.2. He eventually did end up in medical school and is now specializes in drug rehab, something he learned about first-hand.

Other than that, I've never heard of a single case of admissions rescission at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Conversely, can an excellent mid-year report put you over the edge?
Probably not, unless your application was really on the fence...just my opinion.

I definitely think an excellent mid-year report can put you over the edge. In fact, that's why they encourage people who think they're on the fence to go ahead and wait, so they can get another semester's grades, and another shot at standardized tests, under their belts--if they are higher than the others...

It's that second semester senior year that's tough to motivate kids for. No decisions are made on the basis of second semester grades. My oldest definitely got more than a slight touch of senioritis--they all do! Given the pressure they're under for the first three and a half years, I don't blame them!

Yes, good point. A solid argument for not letting senioritis kick in until AFTER those mid-year reports get submitted.

I have senioritis REALLY badly. I'm trying to hang on, though.

Yeah Pinky, I'm afraid a serious case of senioritis is contributing to the "hypothetical" bad mid-year report on my part too.

How bad is bad? Is it my buddy the almost-not-a-doctor 2.2 bad? Or a unbelievably outstanding student to a very good student bad?

For some, a B is a crisis. For all, a D is one.

ok so after my first semester then it doesn't matter? I mean i'm not saying ill get anything superbad, but it would be nice to know I can settle for some B's for once... also, I wanted to drop ap spanish at the semester because I hate my teacher (and then i would get to sleep in!!) but idk if that would affect anything... i mean i would still have the semester report for ap spanish (a repot of "pass" lol) so they would get that for the mid-year report but would they know if i dropped the class after that?

oh i had very bad senioritis, but only after mid year grades were sent in. and even worse when i was accepted in april.
