Mid-year reports?

I have read on this site that postponed candidates may be required to send mid-year grades. Is this done by self-reporting, or is an official transcript needed? I ask because my son's high school requires that envelopes be submitted to the counselors by Jan 31 for them to send reports. We expect to hear a decision from UW by Jan 31 but, if the decision is "postponed", and he needs to send an official document, the office might get snarky if my son requests it later. (even though the semester doesn't even end til Jan 31).

Last year even accepted students were asked to self-report first semester grades to Wisc. My suggestion for you is to make the request to your High School to submit another transcript if you think it could help the process. The worst case is he is accepted and Wisc won’t need it. If the GPA declined due to first semester grades, I would wait until it was requested before submitting. I’m sure it won’t be the first time that the High School had a special request. They’ll get over it. Good Luck!

Postponed applicants self report their mid year grades on their Student Center online account. An official transcript of your senior grades isn’t required until the end of the year.

Thanks, billywesty and justin. I think we’ll hold off until they request it.

My D was accepted awhile ago and just received this a couple of days ago:

Report Your Mid-Year Grades

Hello -----,

We hope your senior year is going well. As you continue to make progress toward graduation, now is the time to update your application by self-reporting your midyear grades, and share any significant additions to or changes in your academic or extracurricular involvement.

Once your first semester (or trimester) of senior year is complete, and you have received your grades, access the Student Center at http://my.wisc.edu
to report your mid-year grades. It is imperative that you report your grades exactly as they appear on your transcript or grade report.

Please submit this information as soon as it becomes available, preferably by mid-February. We look forward to reading more about your accomplishments!

Sincerely,
Office of Admissions and Recruitment

Thanks, celeste
As long as they just require a self-report, we will not request an official transcript from my son’s school. If he’s accepted, he will just fill it in online. Here’s hoping…
