When do you usually have to send in a mid-year report? I know all Common App schools require it, but I haven’t received any requests for it. Some schools explicitly state they want it on their websites, others don’t put it on their website (like Notre Dame), and those that do say they want it don’t give any dates or timeline of when to send it in.
Send it when you get the mid year grades. The sooner the better.
To be clear, you do not send it; your GC does. At many HSs, the GC will automatically send whether the college requires it or not. But assume that your GC knows what to do.
Sent automatically by guidance counselor with your mid year grades- you shouldn’t need to do anything.
Do we need to tell the counselor which colleges require mid-year reports? We have seen that requirement listed for several colleges on the Common App, but those individual colleges’ websites don’t mention mid-year reports anywhere.
Also, if the Common App doesn’t state that a college requires a mid-year report, is it safe to assume we shouldn’t request one from the counselor for that college?
There don’t seem to be any deadlines listed, either.
With mid-term grade report: Does anyone have any advice whether or not to include comments from counselor?? Do smaller private school counselors add comments with these reports? My daughter goes to a huge public high school and I’m wondering if she will be at a disadvantage?? Wondering if I should reach out to her counselor??
Our GC said that the reports that they send are like the transcript and do not include any comments. You might want to check with your school about their policy.
Definitely check your Guidance dept. policy. Our HS requires students to fill out a sheet listing which colleges they want their mid year grades to be sent to.
