Mid year reports?

I know many things are subjective and every applicant is in somewhat of a different situation, but i was just wondering how much do you guys think mid year reports will play?

A lot, I think, If you were deferred!

i guess that was pretty obvious, lol i was just hoping that it wasn't :[
hmm well besides midyears, theres not much deferrees can do right? besides send in extra supps. and what not. hmm
my friend said that deferral letters were customized to each person? is that true? cause when i read it, it didn't seem very..personal lol idk.

Do you guys think they mark some of the deferals as like, high/low deferals ?

Like, this kid in my town's public school wasn't even in the top 5% of his class and had an SAT in the low 2000s... While I'm top 3% at a competitive private school, 2330 SAT, and 5-6 leadership positions... We were both deferred (he to Wharton, me to CAS).

I'm really angry that mid-year reports play an "essential role" ... I'm gonna get a B in English...

This question is kind of totally unrelated to the OPs but do we have to send Mid-Year reports if we got in ED?

nahh no mid-year if you got in early.. anyone know if 1 C (in english) would be enough to rescind early admission?

if u got in early, i thought ur gc still had to send in the midyear, but it basically means nothing.... and no, getting one C wont rescind admissions

yea you do have to send in a mid year report by febuary i believe

yeah sahil.patel - you're supposed to send in a midyear report if ur an ED admit

lol...let's work hard for a few months then~ Getting accepted then rejected is a pity...it will never happen to us here

I read in a book that there are 3 types of deferrals:
1.- polite rejection: if you are never going to get in but you were a legacy or URM they might send you a deferal to avoid dealing with angry parents.
2.- deferred for missing info: for ex if college board never sent your scores and they couldnt contact you, you were deferred.
3.- Deferred becuase you were not so bad but not so good... you are good enough to be in the university but they want to compare you in the context of the RD pool.

Customized deferral letters? IDK... PM me and we can exchange them if you want.

thanks for the info guys... i'm looking forward to next year

um what does PM mean haha sorry im pretty new at this. and how would you know which of the 3 our deferral letters are?

PM = private message

"1.- polite rejection: if you are never going to get in but you were a legacy or URM they might send you a deferal to avoid dealing with angry parents."

Eh. I was triple legacy, had a 2340 on my SATs, and was overall a good applicant and they gave me a flat rejection. Either there's no such thing as a "polite rejection" deferral at Penn or they just decided to be rude to me for some reason.

mnm619, did you apply to the college or wharton?? cuz with legacy and 2300+ SATs, im surprised you got flat out rejected unless you had like a 2.0 GPA

my letter basically just said to send in midyear and extra testing if i have any etc bleh so it sounds pretty.......normal.

That's what a book about admissions to top school said... every school is different though... a friend of mine got rejected from stanford and he was a legacy too.

I applied to the college. I had a W gpa of a 3.85 or something...my school weights gpas pretty lightly, and that is including a kinda so-so freshman year...my gpa for soph and junior years, weighted, is slightly over a 4.0. My UW gpa is probably about a 3.7 or something, I don't really know.

The worst part is, I have several friends who got in who had markedly lower credentials. On top of this, I know my teacher recs were good. Both teachers came to me and volunteered (one flat requested) to write them. One of the teachers even told me that he said something to the effect of my being the best student he's seen in years and one of the students he respects most.

What the hell?

Esp. since less I'm pretty sure less than half of ED applicants actually get flat rejected. (not accepted OR deferred.)

...there's gotta be something you're not telling us...only thing i can think of is if you totally blew up on your essays like...wrote a sentence, or maybe your teacher recs weren't as good as you say they were. If a teacher rec says one negative thing about you, you're basically out.
