may have gotten 2 b's midyear for the first time ever. am i totally screwed for yale. 1480 sat 4.0 unweighted.

You're not totally screwed with those stats, but a downward trend is always a negative. At that level (1480/4.0uw) it's possible that you may have gone from a likely admit to an unlikely admit. You still definitely have a chance though!

while i'm sure that two b's will likely affect your chances in some way, i don't think that those two grades are definitely a sign that you won't get in. are those grades in your most difficult classes (or your schools most difficult classes)? if so, they may not have as much of an effect as if they were in average classes. hope this helps and good luck!

those grades were in ap calc and ap physics

At least they were in quantitative AP classes. If you were going to have a little lower GPA, those would be the classes to take B's in.

i should have mentioned I was already deferred. any other suggestions?

i would talk to your college counselor to see what he/she thinks you can or should do about it. if not anything else, than i would atleast try to improve those grades over the third quarter so that maybe you can send those grades to the admissions department to help your chances.
