Midd Chances 2013??

Right now Midd is my top school...I think I might apply ED or ED II. Do I have a chance at getting in? I'll have a supplementary rec from one of their alum admissions rep/interviewers who I have gotten to know really well and thinks I would be a great fit at midd

In terms of "standing out", I've definitely spent a lot of time in high school studying global human rights...i'm doing an independent study on it, ive done conferences about it, and i have a huge volunteer job with a biiig national anti-genocide coalition. its something im really passionate about, and I hope to emphasize that in my app...its probably not apparent from this list (sorry its long, you dont have to read the whole thing i know its boring!) but i know its something that my essays and college recs will all mention a lot

**My GPA is lower than one would expect of a student applying to top-tier schools, but that is because my school is incredibly difficult and has absolutely no grade inflation. The GPAs of accepted students from my school are always lower than the average accepted GPA of the colleges because colleges know how rigorous my school is.

I think you're a good candidate.

If you are asking if you are a worthwhile candidate on paper, yes. If you are asking for the likelihood that you will be admitted, anyone who says they can predict this is wrong. Middlebury's selectivity has gone through the roof. They are turning down valedictorians, athletes, and perfect sat scores. All you can say about your paper qualifications is that you are not likely to be weeded out in the early screenings. Good luck with the application.

read your essay-yes
acceptance-can't say

thanks guys. i know midd is so popular right now, im just hoping i have a chance. anyone else have any thoughts?? thanks so much :)

Do they take class size into account? For example, is it more impressive to be captain of a major sports team at my school (class size 750) or his (50)?

i think thats pretty self explanatory...the bigger the school, the more competetive its athletics are (usually), the harder it is to be captain. i dont think anyone is going to be super impressed by my jv captain thing, its not a big part of my life or my application.

anyone else chance mee?

You were already told you're a good paper candidate. It's obvious. The rest is up to intangibles, what the school needs in the year you are applying, who else is applying near you geographically, etc etc etc. It's a crap shoot but you've got as good a chance as anyone. What else do you need or want to know? If you want to enhance your application potential, I recommend using spell check and proofread whatever you submit because your spelling and grammar is lacking.

Don't worry about your GPA, they'll understand why it's "lower" after reading your school's profile.

I think you'll get in!

Thanks! :) My GPA is definitely my weakpoint, I just don't really know how much its going to hurt me in comparison to other kids from schools that weight GPAs and/or have grade inflation.

And thank you for the grammar and spelling suggestion, but I think any lack of such skills can probably be attributed to the fact that this is an online forum, not a formal english paper or a college essay. Still, I know that proofreading is always a must :)

anyone else? thanks so much guys!

oh also I just got my SAT II back..I got a 740 on Lit and plan on taking one or two other subjects in the fall. I don't think Midd requires SAT II's but do you think lit is strong enough to send in?

Absolutely. And FYI, Midd's testing policy is that you can send them your SAT Is, or three SAT IIs, or the ACT with writing. So, if you take two other SAT IIs and do as awesomely on them as you did on Lit, then you'll be golden as far as testing goes. If that doesn't happen, though, it looks like your ACT went well too...Good luck! You look like you have as good a chance as anyone!

i think you have pretty solid stats, but as everyone said, beginning with the class of 2011 things got really unpredictable for admissions at midd. good luck!
