Having (more or less) made my decision to apply to Midd over Swat E.D. (a lengthy process, for those of you who haven't seen my other posts) new, more practical thoughts crossed my mind. Thoughts like: can I afford Midd? how good is the careers office at Middlebury? Is a Midd degree worth it? I realized I had no answers, so I turned to you, the collective knowledge of CC for help.
My family is upper middle class, but we do have one huge bonus. My mom is a prof at Oberlin College, and they pay full tuition at any GLCA school (my faves (and safeties) are Kalamazoo and Denison). Not only that, but i get half tuition (OC's tuition) off anywhere else. This amounts to $22,000 less my family has to pay.
Or does it? Will Midd count this as financial aid? does this mean my financial will be essentially zero?
Also, how is the careers center/office at Midd? Is it good enough that my after graduation prospects are rosy? Or am I gonna have to work hard to get even a mediocre job?
I guess at the bottom line I'm asking: is it worth it? I could go to Denison or Kalamazoo tuition free, graduate without student loans, and probably be pretty happy. I also wouldn't have to stress about SAT retakes or what not because those two are my safeties.
On the other hand, I could go for Midd. If i got in (still a fairly big if) I would almost certainly graduate with student debt (unless Midd's financial aid package is amazing), possibly even a near crippling amount. Is going to Middlebury worth that?

Here’s one tool that you can use to get a general estimate of how much aid (if any) you can expect from Midd.
