So i know that there’s been a million threads on this before, but I promise i’ve actually read them all.

I sent in my deposit to Bowdoin, but I got off the Middlebury waitlist, and I was looking for some opinions. Is it worth it to switch?

I’m definitely interested in majoring in some Science, possibly Chemistry or Biology, but I’m also interested in language, though probably not as a major. Study abroad is important, and I’m also really into sports, though not at the varsity level.

I know people going both places, so thats not really an issue. I also know that Bowdoin’s dorms and food are definitely superior!

(Midd was my first choice, but when i decided on Bowdoin I learned to love it, so its a really hard choice now that I’m actually given the option.)

I would say Midd is better for science, especially pre-med

Why did you prefer Midd more than Bowdoin to begin with??? Based on your stated interests (Bowdoin is very strong in the sciences and has been for a very long time), there isn’t any apparent reason for you to change your mind at this juncture but you haven’t really explained what it was about Middlebury that you found to be compelling to begin with so it’s hard to suggest what would the proper course for you. Whatever you decide, you’re fortunate to have the choice that you do . .

Oh - I don’t think so at all - Bowdoin is very strong in the sciences (especially for premed) and has been for eons. Middlebury just recently pumped up its science programs . .

Bowdoin is one of the larger producers per capita of chem PhD according to those stats that fly around CC all the time. It has a fabulous chem, biochem, and bio program. I would say strong than midd.

frogger–these are two good schools. both have dedicated faculty and way above average facilities. both will put aid you in getting wherever you want to go. both will surprise you with options you may not have thought about previously. this is your choice. spend some time alone instead of on these threads. don’t listen to others. listen to yourself and make a decision. this is, after all, what growing into an adult is about. remember, nothing is perfect anyway and it’s up to you to make the most of what you’re offered.

congrats on two great choices.

for full disclosure, i just returned from bowdoin, visiting my son who has a free week between the end of his school year and a summer fellowship doing field research in
biology. he has nothing but positive things to say about his experience–from social, to academic, to athletics and clubs. he has visited middlebury and stayed with friends of friends and says they, too, are great kids who have access to fabulous facilities and know how to have fun. six of one and a half dozen of the other.

I’d take the Maine coast over the Vermont Hills-but both schools are wonderful.

You can see the Green Mountains and Adirondacks from every corner of Midd’s campus. You cannot see the ocean from Bowdoin (except perhaps from the top floors of Cole). Don’t get me wrong–I love the Maine coast, but in the summer months–not in the dead of winter.

bowdoin is better if you want to be a doctor or a banker and make lots of $

The thread is a year and a half old. OP went to Midd.
