Anyone out there a MES major? or know anyone who is? i think it would be really intersting and i have NO idea what i want to do, so i figure i may as well major in somehting interesting and prominent in todays society. thoughts?

I'm not planning on an MES major (or NMC as it is called at the University of Toronto, for the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations), but it appears to be a fascinating area of study. It encompasses all of the great civilizations of the Middle East -- Sumeria, Egypt, ancient Israel, the rise of Hindu and Islamic city-states, etc. -- their languages, cultures, religions, politics, literature, science, and everything else you can think of. Because it is so wide and interdisciplinary (like the field of Classics), many universities allow students to focus on particular areas, such as a major in Hebrew or a major in Egyptology.

If you're into it, go for it!
